How to grow your own vegetable garden - Thursday 23rd September
On the first day of autumn Nick Huxley, Head Gardener at Goldstone Hall will teach all the secrets to a successful kitchen garden. Nick, who manages the 5 acres of Goldstone including the three kitchen cages that cover over a third of an acre, will go through all the basics of growing your own fruit and vegetables no matter the size of your plot.
The day will start with a tour of the whole Goldstone garden finishing with the 2 enclosed cages and espaliered fruit trees. Here Nick will discuss harvesting techniques, crop rotation. After morning coffee the group will move to the Oak Pavilion where Nick will go through potting techniques and how to plan your kitchen garden whatever the size. Then to finish a gardener’s lunch which even Mr. McGregor would be pleased with from Head Chef, John Thompson, and his brigade of chefs. During lunch Nick will be able to answer all your queries on gardening including how to protect your crops in the coming winter months.
